At a glance

Armenia's four documents here follow different photo rules. ID card: no print, you are photographed when you apply. Visa from an embassy: one 35 x 45 mm colour photo, and none for a visa at the border. E-visa: a recent photo uploaded as JPG, JPEG, PNG or BMP of up to 10 MB, with no published size. Return certificate: two 35 x 45 mm photos.

Overview

Two ministries share these documents. The Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs issues ID cards, which since 1 November 2026 are biometric and are applied for through HayPass service centres after online pre-registration; the photo is taken there, so nothing is brought. The same service extends visitor visas in Yerevan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues visas at its missions, where a 35 x 45 mm print goes on the paper form, runs the e-visa portal, which takes an uploaded image, and has its embassies and consulates issue the one-way return certificate, which needs two 35 x 45 mm prints.

Frequently asked questions

No. Embassy visas and return certificates use 35 x 45 mm prints, the e-visa takes an image file with no stated size, and ID card photos are taken by the issuing office.

The office where you apply. The national services gateway says you are photographed and fingerprinted at the office, and since 1 November 2026 this happens at HayPass centres, including self-service kiosks.

No. The foreign ministry's visa form says the photo is not required when applying at the border, but embassy applications need one 35 x 45 mm colour photo.

Not at the moment. Missions suspended passport issuance on 5 October 2026 during the move to biometric documents, so a return certificate, with two 35 x 45 mm photos, is the way home.
