At a glance

Qatar's Ministry of Interior issues all three documents. Qatari passport photos are 3.5 x 4.8 cm (35 x 48 mm) on a grey background, according to Qatari embassies. The Qatar ID card (QID) form photo is 38 x 48 mm, in colour, on a background that is not white. Visa photo rules vary: the Hayya e-visa publishes none, and embassies ask for 38 x 48 mm, 4 x 6 cm or 2 x 2 inches.

Overview

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) issues the Qatari passport, the Qatar ID card and entry visas. Its Nationality and Travel Documents Department handles passports and ID cards for citizens, while the General Directorate of Passports handles visas and the residence permits of foreign residents, which come with their QID. Abroad, Qatari embassies take passport applications from citizens and paper visa applications from visitors.

The ministry rarely gives dimensions. Its own pages ask for "passport-size" photos, and the sizes come from embassy consular pages and MOI paper forms. White is not the default background: embassies ask for grey on passport photos, and the MOI residence form says the background should not be white. Most visitors never print a photo, because the Hayya e-visa is online and the visa on arrival needs none.
